About JavaScript
Updated 2026/10/12: this section used to announce a hard requirement. That policy has been dropped. Visitors with JavaScript switched off now get a small notice instead of being turned away, and every page still reads without it.
Two things do need JavaScript, and only two:
- the countdown on the maintenance page;
- the maintenance admin tool.
Why did we ask in the first place?
Because, undeniably, JavaScript plays an important role in website-building, and some incoming services require it. Some users disable JavaScript for security reasons, which is a perfectly reasonable choice — the site now respects it. The GitHub repository is public if you want to inspect what the site actually runs.
Localization Plan
Recently, we’ve received some complaint letters which are mainly about localization problems.
To begin with, the whole website is mainly written in English. It not only makes the site easy for users from other nations to understand, but also benefits contributors. But don’t worry, we will carry out a localization project aimed at translating the site into Simplified Chinese(简体中文). Soon there will be a page called Translation Progress.
